Jack and Jimmie's Journeys
This story takes place in Kansas City in the late 1940s and early ’50s. Jack is thirteen years old, and Jimmie is nine. They are two brothers, members of a larger family that live life with love for each other and wondrous expectation for the future. Jack is the pace setter for Jimmie, teaching him about life and how to create events in his life. Jack and Jimmie take you along on adventures through the alleyways and street that make up their world. Although Jack has a genetic disease that has painful episodes that leave him spending a lot of time in the hospital or in his bed at home, he is a living example to Jimmie that you can do anything you want to do. Jack uses his time bedridden to read books and use what he learned to make his life very interesting. This is a slice of life of Midwestern kids finding their way at a time when the national culture is beginning to question what they believe.
