A Long Road to America
Germain Gollo went to school in the 1970's in a small town called Kpapekou. The school was compulsory and parents were strict towards their children. School teacher, parents as well as the school board all agreed that missing classes for no apparent reasons ought to be punishable offenses. In the Biblical prophecy, when Adam and Eve disobeyed to God's commands, they were punished with some mitigating circumstances.A Long Road to America: Overcoming Hurdles elaborates on the time in Germain's life when the village white priest, Mogabey, struck him several times without any evidence of his wrongdoing. That could have jeopardized a lot whole his student career and forced him out of school. The book also focuses on some other unseen events in Germain's life as well. During Junior College in Sassandra, southwest of the Ivory Coast, Germain fought hard with the Pouriels for their racist prejudicial rating system they willfully used against students. So students were afraid of engaging them in civil discourse. In addition, Mr. Gollo's family had their say in his internal affair as well.
Upon admission of the teacher's training institute of Dabou, his senior brother, Ernest, complained about his choice of professional career that did not go quite as anticipated for he left sick that led his mental breakdown. Early on in his newly career, life became unbearable, so he requested and was granted to depart from Boundiali to Ferkessedougou. There, he met a young woman, Mariam whom he had a brief romance with. Later on when he got to Dimbokro, in the central valley of Ivory Coast, the idea to write about these cascades of events came to his mind. Since 1986, he began writing about anything that crosses his mind. When he finally decided to get to America, he first traveled to Liberia to get a glimpse of an English country. In the preâ€"colonial Africa, his parents were worshipping wooden idols. So to conform to the tradition, he consulted with two mediums that let him unconvinced.
Going in America was a childhood dreams. His junior brother, Yves, Gollo who excelled in Academic, got a double scholarship to study in America. Upon graduating from the University of Southern California, he received an offer as an Electrical Engineer System Planner for the city of Los Angeles. After a while he arranged for him to get to study here as well.
